The eighth research period of the Underwater Archaeological Research in Fourni, Ikaria, revealed new evidence from a significant shipwreck dating back to the 5th-6th centuries BCE at the tip of Asprokavos.

The focus of the study was on the excavation of the shipwreck located at a depth of 43 to 49 meters, uncovering various types of amphorae and ceramics from different regions of the Black Sea and the Aegean.

Of particular interest was the recovered pottery, which allowed for dating the shipwreck between the years 480 and 520 BCE, particularly during the reign of Emperor Anastasios I. Additionally, artifacts from three other shipwrecks in Fourni were raised, destined for exhibition at the proposed Archaeological Museum of the region.

An important aspect of the research was the training of students in the methods of underwater archaeology, providing significant experience and professional development.
