One of the most famous beaches in Greece, known for its semicircular shape, located on the western coastline of Messinia prefecture and approximately 3 hours away from Athens, offers a beautiful, relaxing dive in shallow waters suitable for divers of all levels.

The beach is accessible by car via the provincial road Pylos – Gargalianoi. Following the signage, you find yourself on a narrow dirt road that leads to a large plateau. Sandy areas with low shrubby vegetation form a natural fence that interrupts the path to the coastline.

Note 1: It’s advisable to plan your dive during hours with less crowd. For the summer period, this means until 9 in the morning. Later, you may find it difficult to find parking close to the beach. Additionally, in recent years, there have been cases of car break-ins, particularly targeting vehicles parked away from the shore, beyond the sight of bathers.

Note 2: Due to the fine sand that gets everywhere, it’s convenient to set up your equipment and prepare on a mat or a straw mat.

THE COAST

Boydokilia takes its name from its characteristic shape reminiscent of the Greek letter “Omega.” A region of exceptional natural beauty, it’s considered a protected area, part of the European Natura 2000 network. For this reason, no artificial constructions or permanent facilities are allowed in the area. You won’t find any shops, restrooms, or kiosks anywhere nearby (except for one along the dirt road and at a considerable distance from the shore).

At first glance, the shallow beach with its thick sand may seem uninteresting from a diving perspective. However, the rocky hillside on the northern side forms a steep slope that drops into the sea, creating interesting rocky formations. Those in your group who don’t dive can set up their umbrella, sunbathe, or swim and then take out their mobile phone or camera to capture their visit to one of Greece’s most famous beaches.

ENTRY TO THE SEA

After setting up your equipment, enter the shallow waters and start walking.

THE DIVE

After conducting the necessary checks, begin swimming southwest, with the rocky wall on your right side and the sandy seabed of the beach on your left. The initial meters of the route are quite shallow. Then, bypass the promontory and continue northwest, depending on your air supply and endurance. Rocky formations, narrow passages, and reefs teeming with marine life offer a beautiful, fulfilling dive even for novice divers, with a maximum depth of up to 9-10 meters.
