Much is said about the “anonymous” sunken ship on the picturesque Cycladic island of Ios. According to the most widespread story from the locals, it happened 60 years ago. The “anonymous” ship, starting from Santorini, was destined for the island of Homer’s mother and dreams. It was a winter evening with strong southwesterly winds that led the “anonymous” to the reefs between Kolitsani beach and the port, where it sank. The only person on the ship was the captain, who managed to swim to Kolitsani beach through the strong wind. According to the locals, the captain, unable to live without the “anonymous,” disappeared, just as the philosopher Homer disappeared in the area of Plakotos, unable to solve the riddle assigned to him by the children at the port. Myth or reality? No one knows!

Access is by boat. You can find a diving center at the beginning of Mylopotas beach, which organizes boat dives to the “anonymous.”

The topography of the site includes Posidonia, sand, and rocks. Within a radius of 20 meters from the entry point, you will find various parts of the wreck, such as the stern in a vertical position, the engine, the anchor, and many scattered metal parts. Marine life is quite rich, with visibility exceeding 10 meters most days in the summer. The depth ranges from 7 to 20 meters.
