The Piper PA-28-181 Warrior II aircraft took off from Paros in October 1998, heading towards Marathon. While flying over Makronissos, the plane experienced engine trouble, forcing it to ditch in the sea. During the ditching, the right wing detached, but the two pilots managed to swim to the nearest shore and were located the next day.

The aircraft was found at a greater depth and moved closer to the shore at a depth of 18 meters to be accessible to novice divers.

As you approach the bay, be mindful of buoys and boat traffic. The site is quite popular, and you may encounter other divers.

Non-divers accompanying you can enjoy swimming. The area has steep cliffs, requiring caution for those approaching the island.

The bay is relatively sheltered, allowing you to prepare on the boat or in the water, depending on your preferences.

The plane is submerged at a depth of 18 meters on the left side of the shore, looking from the boat towards Makronissos (the northern side of the bay). Through one broken window of the aircraft, you can see the cockpit and instruments. The plane may have rusted, exposed parts not covered by vegetation and requires attention. The use of gloves and a hood is recommended.

Around the aircraft, the morphology does not present particular interest. A careful observer may spot fragments of ancient vessels embedded in the seabed.
