One of the closest getaways for the residents of Volos is the two beaches in Plakes. As a rule, these dives have quite reduced visibility, as this is where many springs flow. Nevertheless, the beautiful relief that ends in a small gorge compensates the diver regardless of visibility.

After leaving your car carry your equipment to the beach from the relatively steep path with the stairs that connects the road with the beach.

The beach is small and rocky, while entering the sea is somewhat difficult for someone who does not wear sandals or beach shoes. Nudism is common in the area, something similar to the Vouliagmeni camping.

After entering the water, perform the relevant checks and dive directly.

The place deepens directly. You can find the gorge after a few minutes, on your right. If the visibility is good and you are an experienced diver, we suggest you move straight ahead, as at 25-30 meters there are some large rock formations with forgotten nets that compose a very atmospheric scene. After completing your tour of the site, move to the right (having the shore on your right shoulder). Let the relief guide you under 20 meters and swim until you find the gorge. The formations created by the sponges in the area are of particular interest.

Once you reach the gorge, enter or pass it from below. Normally you will have consumed enough air and will have to return. The return route is just as beautiful. If you dive in the afternoon, upon returning while making your safety stop, you will be able to enjoy the sun’s rays bathing the rocks in the shallows. An ideal place for photos to end your dive.
