There are diving sites that are easy to navigate and relatively easy to find. You can see the relief from the surface and you can easily guess the location and the morphology of the site. In this article we will not deal with one of them, we will try to give instructions for a place that several tanks have been wasted trying to locate it, but in the end we have find some marks that if you follow them you will be rewarded with a very nice dive in an almost hidden reef.

Up to 30m depth, Up to 40 m depth

By car, By 4x4, By boat

100+ m of swimming

Organized beach

It has no shipwreck

The beach is located in front of the Leda Hotel in the village of Horto Pelion. If you are staying in the hotel or you are a member of the diving center located inside the hotel you can park your car in the parking lot and take your equipment down to the shore. Alternatively, pass the hotel and turn into the alley with a sign reading café-Casablanca. Parking there is a bit more difficult. In both cases you will have to walk a path of 70-80 meters to get to the beach.

THE COAST

The beach may be a bit narrow, but beautiful with sand and fine pebbles, while the water is clear. In a very short distance there are two cafes where you or your non –diving friends can be served.

ENTRY TO THE SEA

The entry point is on your right hand as you look at the sea from the shore and since the dive is deep enough we suggest surface swimming in order to save as much air as possible. Enter the water, perform the necessary checks and start surface swimming. The goal is to swimm about 20 meters away from the shore as far as the rocks as in the photo. We take sneak peeks at the bottom to find a typical square old anchorage (2nd photo). Continue surface swimming for about 2-3 minutes at a 240 degrees direction and then dive.

THE DIVE

The reef appears at about 12 meters and the large volumes quickly become distinct, breaking the monotony of sand and Neptune grass that prevailed for quite some distance. The cliffs are full of sponges and spiral tube worms and the usual damselfish dominate in a reef with plenty of life.

After a few meters of reef as you go deeper, you will find sand again, continue in the same direction at about 240 degrees and after a few strokes you will find rocks again. The dive is quite deep and continues for over 40 meters. You have to keep an eye on the pressure gauge and we suggest due to the long distance from the shore to start your return course at 110-120 bar. In any case, depending on your experience, discuss in advance with your buddy maximum depth. If it is more than 30 meters it is very likely that you will get into a decompression dive. Follow your dive computer or board for the required stops.

On the way back you will have the opportunity to make all your decompression stops, while you will meet a small Neptune grass meadow that can be found in the area, acting as a refuge for all kinds of micro-life. Take your time to explore it!
